The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway carries visitors from a lower station on Tafelberg Road to the upper station on the mountain's flat summit. The operator's site mentions an eatery at the top, the Ten67 Eatery, which serves pizza, pasta and cake, and it also lists guided walks and a section for hikers.
Tickets are sold online through the operator's agent Webtickets and at the ticket office, and the operator says that tickets bought on other websites are not valid. Even with a ticket you may need to queue on busy days, and the operator offers a Fast Track option that lets you book a specific timeslot online. The operator's site shows the current waiting time at the lower and upper stations on the day.
The cableway operates weather permitting and may close in bad weather, so it is worth checking the operator's website or app on the morning you plan to go. Each winter it also closes for about two weeks of annual maintenance, which in 2026 ran from 27 July to 9 August. Walking up has its own risks, and our Table Mountain safety guide sets out what to know before you choose that route.
What it costs
An adult return ticket cost R475 when bought online and R530 at the ticket office in October 2026, on the operator's site, for prices valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.
Getting there
The lower station is on Tafelberg Road above the City Bowl, a short drive from the city centre. Check the operator's site for current parking and transport options.
Visiting safely
- Check the operator's website or app for the cableway status before you set off, because it may be closed in bad weather.
- Buy tickets only through the operator's own site or its agent Webtickets, because the operator says tickets from other websites are not valid.
- If you plan to walk up, check that the cableway is running first, because when it is closed you need to arrange your own way back down.
- Hike in a group of four or more, tell someone not on the hike when you expect to return and take a jacket, because Cape Town's weather can change quickly.
