On 2 November 2019 South Africa beat England 32–12 in Yokohama, with tries from Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe, the first tries the Springboks had ever scored in a World Cup final. Siya Kolisi, who had grown up in Zwide outside Port Elizabeth, lifted the cup as the first black captain of the Springboks. He said afterwards that the team had come from different backgrounds and races and had come together with one goal.
