What helps here
Save the Table Mountain National Park emergency number before you set off: 086 110 6417. For mountain rescue, call Wilderness Search and Rescue on 021 937 0300, or 112 from a mobile.
- Hike in a group, not alone.
- Start early and turn back in good time. The light goes quickly once the sun drops behind the ridge.
- Tell someone your route and when you expect to be down.
- Stick to the marked paths and keep to the busier routes if you do not know the mountain.
- Carry water, a charged phone and a warm layer. The weather on the summit changes fast.
- Leave what you do not need at home and keep valuables out of sight.
- If you are threatened, hand over what is asked for and report it afterwards. Nothing you are carrying is worth more than you are.
