Peninsula Hiking Trails crime report
How this page is made
One source: news reports
- Police statistics are published per police station. No station matches a road corridor or a trail network, so this page has no police figures and does not say how safe it is.
- Everything on this page comes from news reports, each linked to the outlet that published it. We write our own plain line for each (type, place and month) and never repeat the outlet's headline.
- We do not chart news reports over time: how many incidents make the news depends on what journalists cover, so a rising line would measure media attention, not crime.
- Hiker deaths and missing hikers where no crime is suspected are counted and listed separately. They are never added to the crime figures.
One period
Every figure on the page covers the same 12 months to 2 November 2026: the 12 months to the latest update of this report. Unlike the district reports, there are no police figures to wait for, so the period moves on with every update. Reports that reach us after an update are listed separately under “Since”.
The rules we follow
- Every sentence is worked out from the data each time the page is built. None is written by hand.
- News reports use the same crime types, names and colours as every other report: murder, sexual offences, robbery, assault, break-ins, car crime and theft.
- A news report about a killing counts once, however many people it is about: these are reports, not a death toll.
- We only say “mostly” when it means more than half.
What we can't see
- News reports cover only what journalists wrote about.
- Most crimes never make the news, so a quiet list is not proof of a quiet place.
Privacy
- We never write house numbers or anyone's age.
- News items are shown by type, place and month only.
