Sheltered beaches:Spring and summer. Table Mountain and Lion's Head block it from False Bay, which stays calm while the Atlantic Seaboard gets hammered.
Winter's cold-front wind. Reverses the pattern: Atlantic beaches calm, False Bay rough. Usually arrives with rain.
Hot and dry, blowing off the interior. Arrives a day or two ahead of a cold front. Raises fire risk sharply.
South-easter with cloud and drizzle piling over Table Mountain. Dark, damp, and uniquely Cape Town.
