About this place

Zeitz MOCAA occupies a grain silo in the Silo District of the V&A Waterfront. The museum says the 57-metre silo was built in 1921 and completed in 1924, and Heatherwick Studio carved galleries and a central atrium out of it. The museum opened on 22 September 2017 and has about 9,500 square metres over nine floors, including 6,000 square metres of exhibition space and a rooftop sculpture garden.

It shows contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Jochen Zeitz co-founded the museum and has loaned his art collection to it, and the museum's website lists a 'Selections from the Collection' exhibition running to 4 April 2027.

Many visitors come as much for the building as for the art. The museum runs free one-hour tours on weekdays and a free Africa Wednesday for African citizens.

What it costs

An adult ticket booked through Webtickets was R350 from 1 September 2026, up from R265, and South African or African citizens paid R199 on site with a South African ID or African passport, according to the museum's plan-your-visit page in October 2026.

Getting there

The museum is in the Silo District, South Arm Road, at the V&A Waterfront. The museum lists secure parking in the Silo District Parking Garage (P3), with direct access to the museum.
