Safety and walking

By day the beachfront works normally: Surfer's Corner, Beach Road and the Main Road shops are busy and easy to walk, with lifeguards and Shark Spotters on duty in season. Keep bags in sight on crowded beach days and leave nothing visible in a parked car. Walk the St James catwalk in daylight and when other people are on it. The dune belt towards Sunrise Circle is quiet enough to avoid alone early or late. After dark, stay on Beach Road and the village strip and take an Uber or Bolt rather than walking. Vrygrond and Overcome Heights sit inland across Prince George Drive and are not visitor areas at any hour.
