Safety and walking

Kalk Bay is a short, walkable strip: the harbour, Main Road's bookshops and cafes and the tidal pool are busy and easy to walk through the day, with a steady stream of day trippers. The usual problem here is your car, not you. Break-ins happen along Main Road and the harbour parking, so leave nothing in sight, boot included. Cross Main Road with care, because traffic moves fast between the shopfronts. After dark the village empties quickly. Stay on the lit restaurant stretch, avoid the station subway, the harbour wall and Boyes Drive on foot at night, and take an Uber or Bolt back rather than walking to Muizenberg or St James.
