Safety and walking

Constantia is not a walking suburb in the way the City Bowl is. Many roads have no continuous pavement and residents drive almost everywhere. The walking that does happen is on the greenbelts, Alphen, Diep River, Klein Constantia and Spaanschemat, and around Tokai Forest. These are fine in daylight and best walked with a dog or another person; they thin out quickly at dusk, so turn for home well before dark, especially in winter. Around Constantia Village and Spaanschemat River Road the risk is to your car rather than to you: theft from parked vehicles is the most reported offence, so empty the car and use the Village's underground parking.
