Safety and walking

Daytime walking is straightforward. The village on Main Road, the school and campus routes and the residential streets between Main Road and the M3 are busy, and the RCID patrols and cameras cover most of that footprint. Rondebosch Common is the exception at both ends of the day: open ground with few sightlines, so walk it in company, keep one ear free of headphones and avoid it alone at dawn and dusk. After dark the village empties early. Stick to the lit stretches near Main Road, keep phones and laptops out of sight around the UCT fringes, and use a ride app for anything longer than a few blocks.
