Safety and walking
The village is small enough to cross on foot in fifteen minutes, and Huguenot Road with its restaurants and galleries is relaxed and well watched during the day, with municipal safety monitors on the strip. After dark the village empties quickly and the side lanes and estate roads are dark and quiet, so arrange a lift or an e-hailing trip back from dinner rather than walking. Vehicle break-ins at wine estate parking are the most common problem; leave nothing visible. On the mountain trails, walk in company, go in daylight and check trail and fire conditions first, since the valley burns most summers.
