Safety and walking

Durbanville's residential streets and the estate areas are comfortable to walk by day, and the Wellington Road and Main Road cafe strip stays busy into the early evening. Bellville is different: the CBD, the station and the taxi ranks are the busiest part of the northern suburbs and carry most of the area's street crime, so walk there in daylight, keep your phone out of sight and take a car or an e-hailing trip after dark rather than walking to your vehicle. Residential Bellville is quiet at night but poorly lit in places. Burglary, not street robbery, is the main risk to homes in both towns, and most houses have alarms and armed response.
