Somerset West walks like a quiet country town. The Main Road shops, the mall precinct and the residential streets under the mountain are comfortable through the day, and the estates and wine farms are secure and easy to move around. Street robbery is the thing that has changed: reported cases climbed from 64 to 125 in the 2024/25 police year, so keep your phone out of sight in the town centre and around the transport routes, and do not walk alone there after dark. Residential streets are quiet at night but unlit in places; drive or use an e-hailing trip. Lock your car while driving and leave nothing visible in it.
