Table Mountain is named a New Wonder of Nature

On 11 November 2011 voting closed in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign and Table Mountain was provisionally named among the seven, alongside the Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Komodo and the Puerto Princesa underground river. The result was confirmed the following May and a plaque unveiled in December 2012. The campaign was a private one, run by a Swiss foundation, and the city had lobbied hard for votes.
