This moment describes violence or loss under apartheid. It is told through the people who lived it, from the sources linked below.

Sam Nzima, a photographer for The World, was in Soweto on 16 June 1976 when the police opened fire on marching schoolchildren. He took six frames of Mbuyisa Makhubu carrying the dying Hector Pieterson, with Hector's sister Antoinette running beside them, and hid the roll of film in his sock. The World published the picture and within days it had gone around the world. Harassed by the security police, he left Johannesburg for his home village of Lillydale in the lowveld, where he ran a bottle store. He later said the picture had ruined his life, and it took him years to win its copyright.
