Rolihlahla Mandela is born at Mvezo
On 18 July 1918 a boy named Rolihlahla was born at Mvezo, a village on the Mbashe River in what is now the Eastern Cape, into the Madiba clan of the Thembu people. The name means, roughly, one who pulls the branch of a tree, or troublemaker. A teacher at his mission school in Qunu gave him the name Nelson. The date is now Mandela Day, marked by 67 minutes of service for his 67 years in public life.
