Bafana Bafana win the Africa Cup of Nations

Less than two years after the first democratic election, and seven months after the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup, South Africa's footballers won the Africa Cup of Nations at home. On 3 February 1996 Bafana Bafana beat Tunisia 2–0 in the final at the FNB Stadium. Mark Williams came off the bench and scored both goals within two minutes, in the 73rd and 75th. Nelson Mandela, in a Bafana shirt this time, handed the trophy to the captain, Neil Tovey.
