Safety and walking

Daytime walking on Albert Road, Victoria Road and around the Old Biscuit Mill is unremarkable, though phones are worth keeping pocketed in the Saturday market crowds, where snatching is the common offence. Upper Woodstock, above Victoria Road toward Devil's Peak, is quiet on foot at most hours. After dark the picture changes: the commercial strip empties by about 9pm, and the blocks down toward the railway, the station surrounds and the Searle Street bridge are best avoided on foot at night. Take an Uber or Bolt for evening trips. Use guarded parking, such as the College of Cape Town, and leave nothing visible in the car.
