Safety and walking

Upper Walmer Estate, the steep streets above Coronation Road, is calm to walk by day and quiet at night, though street lighting is patchy. Chester Road and Coronation Road are the routes to keep to after dark. Avoid the Searle Street underpass and the open District Six fields on the lower boundary after sunset, and treat the walk down to Woodstock station as a daytime route, since pedestrian robbery there peaks at commuter hours. Phone snatching is the common offence. Most houses have no off-street parking and theft from parked cars is the crime residents meet most often, so leave nothing in the car overnight.
