Day-by-Day Plan

Day 1: Table Mountain & the Waterfront
Morning:
  • Table Mountain Cableway: Take the first cable car up for sunrise views over the city and Table Bay. Book your ticket online and check the weather before you set off, as the cableway closes in strong wind.
Afternoon:
  • V&A Waterfront: Stroll the harbour, browse the Watershed craft market and have lunch overlooking the working docks.
  • Robben Island: Catch the afternoon ferry from the Nelson Mandela Gateway for a guided tour of the island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Tours sell out, so book several days ahead.
Day 2: Cape Point & Chapman's Peak
Morning:
  • Chapman's Peak Drive: Head south along one of the world's great coastal roads, stopping at the viewpoints high above Hout Bay.
Afternoon:
  • Cape Point: Loop through the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park. Walk up to the old lighthouse or take the funicular, and keep an eye out for baboons and bontebok along the way.
Day 3: Kirstenbosch & Constantia
Morning:
  • Kirstenbosch Gardens: An unhurried morning walk through the botanical garden on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, including the Boomslang canopy walkway above the treetops.
Afternoon:
  • Constantia wine estates: A late lunch picnic among the vines in Cape Town's oldest wine valley. Groot Constantia is the classic choice for a cellar tour and tasting.
Evening:
  • Jazz at The Crypt: End the trip with live jazz at The Crypt beneath St George's Cathedral in the city centre.
