Part 3: Requirements for TRV 11.6 Spousal Visa with work

Requirements and Documents for Work‑Endorsed Spousal Visa

You need everything from the basic spousal checklist plus extra documents proving the job/business/study you plan to undertake.

Category Extra documents required (in addition to Part 1 list)
Employment · Official job‑offer letter or employment contract on company letterhead, signed and dated.
· Company CIPC registration & SARS tax clearance copy (good practice even if not demanded).
Business · Comprehensive business plan.
· CIPC registration, share certificates, SARS registration.
· Proof of funds or financial statements (if trading).
Study · Acceptance letter from the institution.
· Proof of tuition payment or scholarship.
Application form Tick/annotate “Section 11(6) – work” (or study/business) on the DHA‑84 or VFS online system.
Fee Same as normal spouse TRV – no extra DHA fee for the endorsement; only the VFS service fee.
SA spouse presence SA partner must attend VFS submission; joint affidavit still required.

Note: Visa will authorise only the employer/position specified. Changing jobs later means applying to vary conditions (same paperwork + new offer).

Application Process & Tips for the Work‑Endorsed Spousal Visa

Submission mechanics are identical to Part 1. Focus on these extras:

  • Clear cover letter: State “Application in terms of Section 11(6) for spousal work endorsement” and list employer, job title, salary.
  • Employer follow‑up: Keep HR informed; DHA may phone them to confirm the offer is still valid months later.
  • Changing offers: If your job evaporates mid‑process, you may withdraw and re‑apply with a new offer or await a refusal then file anew. Either way, the clock restarts.
  • Check visa wording: On approval, ensure the sticker reads “authorised to work for [Company Name] as [Job Title].” Errors must be fixed immediately.
  • Labour‑law rights: Once issued, you enjoy normal SA labour protections; losing the job does not cancel the visa (it’s marriage‑based), but you must cease working until a new endorsement is granted.
  • Renew early: Start renewal prep at least 6 months before expiry; employer letter must be freshly dated.
