The last hour of shipping off the Cape, replayed from live AIS signals
Since ships began avoiding the Red Sea late in 2023, traffic
past the Cape of Good Hope has nearly doubled: from about 48 transits
a day to 91. Every mark is a real vessel on its reported course.
Coverage is strongest around Cape Town and the western
approaches. The stretch from Cape Agulhas to Durban has no AIS receivers,
so ships crossing it do not appear here.
